Panopolis

Panopolis, also known by its ancient Egyptian name Akhmim, is an ancient city in Upper Egypt. It lies on the eastern bank of the Nile near the modern town of Akhmim in the Sohag Governorate. The name Panopolis, meaning City of Pan in Greek, reflects the city’s Greek and Roman-era religious and cultural landscape and its association with the god Pan in ancient tradition.
