Allormeggio

Allormeggio is a small municipality located in the Province of Pavia, in the Lombardy region of northern Italy. The comune covers an area of approximately 12 square kilometres and, as of the latest census, has a population of around 1,200 residents. The town lies at an elevation of 73 metres above sea level and is situated near the banks of the Po River, which has historically influenced its agricultural practices and local economy.

The history of Allormeggio dates back to the Roman era, when the area served as a minor settlement along a trade route between the cities of Pavia and Milan. In the Middle Ages, the village was incorporated into the County of Pavia and later fell under the influence of the House of Visconti. Architectural remains from this period include a Romanesque church dedicated to Saint Vitale, which was reconstructed in the 17th century and retains frescoes attributed to local artists of the Baroque period.

Agriculture remains the principal economic activity, with emphasis on the cultivation of rice, corn, and wheat due to the fertile alluvial soils. In recent years, the municipality has promoted agritourism and the preservation of traditional farming methods, attracting visitors interested in rural tourism and local culinary specialties. Cultural life is centred on the annual Festa del Cibo, a food festival celebrating regional cuisine, and the Saint Vitale Procession, a religious procession that draws participants from surrounding communities.
