Alkalmazáskövetelés, often translated as application requirement or software requirement, refers to a detailed description of the services and constraints that an application must provide or adhere to. These requirements form the foundation of the software development process, ensuring that the final product meets the needs and expectations of its users and stakeholders.

Application requirements can be broadly categorized into functional and non-functional types. Functional requirements define what the application should do, outlining specific features, behaviors, and operations. For example, a functional requirement for an e-commerce application might be "The system shall allow users to add items to a shopping cart." Non-functional requirements, on the other hand, specify how the application should perform or operate, focusing on aspects like performance, security, usability, reliability, and maintainability. An example of a non-functional requirement could be "The application shall load within 3 seconds on a standard broadband connection."

The process of eliciting, analyzing, specifying, and validating application requirements is known as requirements engineering. This is a crucial phase, as incomplete or incorrect requirements can lead to significant cost overruns, project delays, and ultimately, a product that fails to satisfy its intended purpose. Effective communication between developers, clients, and end-users is paramount throughout the requirements gathering and management lifecycle. Various methodologies and tools are employed to capture and document these requirements, ranging from user stories and use cases to formal specification languages.
