Aldercrest

Aldercrest is a small town and the county seat of Alder County in the fictional region of Northwood. It lies along the Alder River in a mixed woodland and agricultural landscape. The population is around 12,000 residents.

Aldercrest serves as a local commercial hub for surrounding rural communities, with a downtown area that includes a public library, a farmers market, and several historic storefronts.

The town was founded in the mid-19th century as a logging outpost and expanded after the arrival of a railroad in the 1880s. It diversified into small manufacturing and services during the 20th century and more recently has focused on education, healthcare, and tourism related to nearby forests.

The town covers about 20 square miles, with rolling hills to the west and the river to the east. The climate is temperate with four distinct seasons.

The local economy is anchored by government services, a regional hospital, and small businesses. Tourism centers on outdoor recreation, including hiking, fishing, and scenic drives.

Aldercrest Public Schools operates several elementary schools, a middle school, and Aldercrest High School. A community college campus offers vocational and transfer programs.
