Alberich is a name attached to a dwarf figure in Germanic myth and medieval legend, most closely associated with a treasure hoard that plays a central role in later adaptations. In modern context, the best-known version of the character appears in Richard Wagner’s Ring cycle, where Alberich is a Nibelung dwarf whose pursuit of power drives the entire plot.

In the medieval epic tradition, notably the Nibelungenlied (circa 1200), Alberich is described as a dwarf who guards the treasure of the Nibelungs.
