Abdelbaset Ali Mohmed al-Megrahi was a Libyan intelligence officer and convicted bomber. He was convicted in the Netherlands for the bombing of Pan Am Flight 103 over Lockerbie, Scotland, on December 21, 1988. The attack killed all 259 people on board and 11 people on the ground. Al-Megrahi was one of two Libyans indicted for the bombing. He was found guilty in 2001 and sentenced to life imprisonment.
