Al Maturidi was a prominent theologian and scholar of Islam who lived in the 10th century. He is best known as the founder of the Maturidi school of theology, which became one of the two major Sunni Ash'ari and Maturidi schools of theological thought. Maturidi was born in Maturid, a town in present-day Uzbekistan, and spent much of his life teaching and writing in Samarkand.
