Akumatized

Akumatized is a term originating from the animated television series Miraculous: Tales of Ladybug & Cat Noir. It refers to a process where an ordinary person, experiencing intense negative emotions such as anger, sadness, or jealousy, is transformed into a supervillain by Hawk Moth. Hawk Moth, the series' antagonist, uses a magical butterfly, known as a "sentimonster" or "akuma," to locate individuals susceptible to his influence.

Upon locating a suitable target, Hawk Moth sends the akuma to infect them. The akuma amplifies the person's negative feelings, feeding on them and granting them superpowers. The transformed individual is then referred to as "akumatized." Their appearance usually changes drastically, reflecting their newfound powers and their villainous persona. They are typically given a specific name and a mission by Hawk Moth, which usually involves retrieving Ladybug and Cat Noir's Miraculous jewels.

Once an akumatized villain is defeated and their negative emotions are quelled, the akuma is purified by Ladybug, returning the victim to their normal state with no memory of their time as a villain. The term "akumatization" describes the act or state of being transformed into an akumatized villain.
