Akrosomaalinen

Akrosomaalinen is a Finnish adjective meaning related to the acrosome, the cap-like organelle located at the anterior end of the spermatozoon. In English, the corresponding term is acrosomal. The word derives from the Greek akros (“top, end”) and soma (“body”), combined with the Finnish adjectival suffix -inen to form a descriptor used in scientific texts.

The acrosome forms during spermiogenesis as a specialized lysosome-like vesicle that overlays the sperm nucleus.
