Akkommodations
Akkommodations is a term used in several fields to describe processes of adjustment or adaptation to changing conditions. In physiology, ocular akkommodation refers to the eye’s ability to change optical power to maintain a clear image (focus) on objects at different distances. This is achieved by contraction of the ciliary muscle, relaxation of zonular fibers, and increased curvature of the lens for near vision; age-related loss of this ability is called presbyopia. Clinically, accommodation is examined together with convergence and pupillary reactions as part of the near reflex.
