Aigis

Aigis, also spelled Aigis or Aegis in some translations, is a term with mythological roots and various uses in popular culture. In Greek mythology the aegis refers to a protective shield associated with Zeus and Athena, and the word has since become a general symbol of protection and sponsorship.

In video games, Aigis is best known as a character in the Persona series. She is a female anti-Shadow android developed by the Kirijo Group to combat Shadows. She joins SEES, the group of students who fight the Dark Hour. Although initially depicted as highly programmed and emotionally restrained, Aigis gradually develops autonomy and forms close bonds with her teammates. She eventually awakens a Persona, enabling her to access a broader set of abilities in battle. Her story arc addresses themes of humanity, memory, and the ethics of artificial life.

The name Aigis has been used in other contexts as well, often as a nod to the mythological aegis or to emphasize protection.
