Ahisamakh

Ahisamakh, also transliterated Ahisamach, is a minor figure in the Hebrew Bible. He is primarily known as the father of Aholiab, a skilled artisan who assisted in the construction of the Tabernacle during the wilderness period.

In the Exodus account of the Tabernacle’s design and fabrication, Bezalel is described as filled with the Spirit of God for wisdom and understanding in all manner of workmanship. The text also identifies Aholiab, the son of Ahisamakh, of the tribe of Dan, as one of the artisans who would work alongside Bezalel. This establishes Ahisamakh as the patriarch of a family line associated with the craftsmanship of the Tabernacle.

The name Ahisamakh is of Hebrew origin, and the spelling of the name varies in manuscript editions (Ahisamakh and Ahisamach are both encountered). Beyond his role as the father of Aholiab, little is recorded about Ahisamakh in the biblical text, and there are no separate narratives or genealogies tied to him. His notable mention rests on his association with Aholiab and, by extension, the broader story of the Tabernacle’s skilled artisans who contributed to its construction under divine instruction.
