Afgooye

Afgooye is a town and the administrative center of Afgooye District in the Lower Shabelle region of southern Somalia. It lies along the Shabelle River, about 30 kilometers southwest of Mogadishu, and sits on the main road that connects the capital with southern towns.

The town lies in a fertile river valley where irrigation from the Shabelle supports agricultural activity. Local farms produce bananas, maize, vegetables and other crops, making Afgooye a key market town for nearby rural communities. Markets in the town trade produce with Mogadishu and other settlements linked by the region's road network.

Afgooye has served as an administrative center since the district’s organization within the regional government structure. Over the past decades it has experienced periods of instability associated with wider conflicts in the country, but it remains the district seat and a local hub for governance and services.

Economy is dominated by agriculture and trade, with many residents engaged in farming, trading, and transport services. The town is connected to Mogadishu by a major road, facilitating the movement of people and goods between the capital and inland areas.
