Adygey

Adygey, officially the Republic of Adygea, is a federal subject of Russia, located in the northwestern Caucasus. It is an enclave within Krasnodar Krai and is the smallest republic in Russia by area. The capital and largest city is Maykop. The majority of the population is Adyghe, a Northwest Caucasian ethnic group, with a significant Russian minority. The official languages are Adyghe and Russian.

The region has a rich history, with evidence of human habitation dating back to the Paleolithic era. In ancient times, it was part of various Caucasian states and later influenced by the Golden Horde and the Ottoman Empire. In the 19th century, it became part of the Russian Empire. Adygea was established as an autonomous oblast within Krasnodar Krai in 1922, and later became an autonomous republic.

The geography of Adygea is characterized by mountains in the south, part of the Greater Caucasus range, and plains in the north. The Kuban River flows through the republic. The climate is generally temperate continental, with warmer summers and cooler winters. The economy is primarily based on agriculture, including grain cultivation, livestock farming, and horticulture. There is also some industrial activity, particularly in food processing and machine building. Tourism is a growing sector, attracted by the natural beauty and historical sites.
