Abtastperiode

Abtastperiode refers to the time interval between successive samples of a continuous signal. In digital signal processing, this process is known as sampling, where a continuous waveform is converted into a discrete sequence of values. The Abtastperiode, often denoted by T, is the reciprocal of the sampling frequency, fs. So, T = 1/fs.

The choice of Abtastperiode is crucial in determining the fidelity of the sampled signal. According to the Nyquist-Shannon sampling theorem, the sampling frequency must be at least twice the highest frequency component present in the original signal to avoid aliasing. Aliasing occurs when high-frequency components in the original signal are misrepresented as lower frequencies in the sampled signal, leading to distortion. Therefore, a shorter Abtastperiode (higher sampling frequency) is generally required for signals with a wider frequency range to accurately capture all their details.

The Abtastperiode directly influences the amount of data generated. A shorter Abtastperiode results in more samples per unit of time, leading to a larger data file size. Conversely, a longer Abtastperiode produces fewer samples, reducing data storage requirements but potentially sacrificing signal accuracy if the sampling rate is too low. The optimal Abtastperiode is a balance between signal quality and data management considerations.
