Absorbioidea
Absorbioidea is a superfamily of marine bivalve mollusks, belonging to the class Bivalvia. This group is characterized by its unique feeding mechanism, which involves the absorption of dissolved organic matter from the surrounding water rather than filtering particles. The superfamily includes several families, such as the Tellinidae, which are commonly known as tellins, and the Pectinidae, which are known as scallops. Absorbioidea are found in a variety of marine habitats, including rocky shores, sandy bottoms, and coral reefs. They play an important role in marine ecosystems by contributing to nutrient cycling and providing food for other organisms. The superfamily is further divided into two suborders: Pectinida, which includes the scallops, and Tellinida, which includes the tellins and other related species. The taxonomy of Absorbioidea is still a subject of ongoing research, with new species and genera being discovered and described regularly.
