Abinader

Luis Abinader is a Dominican politician and businessman who has served as the President of the Dominican Republic since August 16, 2020. He is the leader of the Modern Revolutionary Party (PRM). Born in 1967, Abinader comes from a family with a political background. His father, José Abinader, was a prominent politician and businessman.

Abinader pursued higher education in the United States, studying business administration and finance. Before entering full-time politics, he was involved in his family's business ventures, particularly in the tourism and construction sectors. He also holds a degree in advanced management from the Instituto Nacional de Administración Pública (INAP) in the Dominican Republic and has taken postgraduate courses in project management and financial management in the United States and Belgium.

He first ran for president in 2016, but was defeated. In the 2020 general election, Abinader won the presidency in the first round, securing over 52% of the vote. His platform focused on fighting corruption, improving the economy, and strengthening public institutions. His presidency has been marked by efforts to address the economic impact of the COVID-19 pandemic and to implement reforms aimed at transparency and good governance. He is married to Raquel Arbaje, and they have three daughters.
