Abholcodes

Abholcodes are authorization codes used to pick up goods from a designated pickup location, such as a parcel shop, locker, or counter. They are commonly used in e-commerce and parcel logistics in German-speaking regions. An Abholcode is typically generated by the seller or carrier when a shipment is prepared for collection and is transmitted to the recipient by email, SMS, a mobile app, or the carrier’s online portal. The code may be numeric or alphanumeric and is often accompanied by a barcode or QR code to simplify scanning at the pickup point.

During collection, the recipient presents the Abholcode (and often a form of identification) to verify entitlement to the item. Some systems also require the recipient’s name or order details in addition to the code. Abholcodes are usually time-limited and expire after a defined period, after which a new code or alternative pickup option is provided.

Security: The code should be kept confidential because it authorizes release of goods. If compromised, the carrier can issue a replacement or arrange another pickup option.

Variations exist among providers, but the general concept remains: a shipment-specific code that enables pickup at a designated location.
