Abgasanordnung is a German term that translates to "exhaust system" in English. It refers to the entire arrangement of components designed to safely remove exhaust gases from an internal combustion engine and discharge them into the atmosphere. The primary purpose of an Abgasanordnung is to channel harmful byproducts of combustion, such as carbon monoxide, nitrogen oxides, and particulate matter, away from the engine and the vehicle's occupants.

A typical Abgasanordnung consists of several key parts. It begins with the exhaust manifold, which collects the exhaust gases from each cylinder of the engine. These gases then flow through exhaust pipes, which connect the various components. A catalytic converter is a crucial element, responsible for chemically converting toxic gases into less harmful substances. A muffler or silencer is included to reduce the noise generated by the engine's combustion process. Finally, an exhaust pipe leads the treated gases to the rear or side of the vehicle for release.
