Abednego is a biblical figure mentioned in the Hebrew Bible in the Book of Daniel. He, along with Shadrach and Meshach, was one of three young Babylonian Jews who refused to worship the king’s golden image. Because of their defiance, king Nebuchadnezzar ordered that they be cast into a blazing furnace. The narrative, found in Daniel 3, records that an angelic figure protected the youths and that all three emerged unharmed, prompting the king to issue a decree praising the God they served.
