ARFGAP3

ARFGAP3, also known as ADP-ribosylation factor GTPase-activating protein 3, is a protein that in humans is encoded by the ARFGAP3 gene. This gene is located on chromosome 19 and is part of a family of GTPase-activating proteins that regulate ADP-ribosylation factors. These factors are small GTPases involved in various cellular processes, including vesicle trafficking, membrane dynamics, and cytoskeletal organization.

The ARFGAP3 protein specifically acts as a GTPase-activating protein (GAP) for certain ARF proteins. By promoting the hydrolysis of GTP to GDP on ARF proteins, it effectively inactivates them. This regulation is crucial for controlling the localization and activity of ARF-dependent pathways. Research suggests ARFGAP3 plays a role in endocytosis, the process by which cells internalize molecules from their external environment.
