APFSää

APFSää is a Finnish acronym that translates to "Apple File System" in English. It is a modern file system developed by Apple Inc. for use with its operating systems, including macOS, iOS, tvOS, and watchOS. APFS was introduced as a replacement for the older HFS+ file system, which had been in use for many years.

The primary goals behind the development of APFS were to improve performance, reliability, and security, especially for solid-state drives (SSDs). It features a number of enhancements over HFS+, including space sharing, which allows multiple volumes to share the same underlying storage space efficiently. Snapshots are another key feature, enabling the creation of point-in-time copies of the file system without significant performance overhead. APFS also incorporates strong encryption capabilities, with support for full-disk encryption and per-file encryption. For data integrity, APFS uses a technique called copy-on-write, which helps prevent data corruption by ensuring that data is not overwritten in place. Its structure is designed to be more robust against data loss and corruption. APFS is the default file system for all Apple devices shipping with recent versions of their operating systems.
