ADSL yhteydet, short for Asymmetric Digital Subscriber Line, refers to a type of digital subscriber line technology that transmits digital data over a telephone line. The "asymmetric" aspect means that the download speed is significantly faster than the upload speed, which is suitable for typical internet usage where users download more data than they upload. ADSL technology leverages existing copper telephone lines, making it a widely available and relatively cost-effective broadband internet solution. It allows for simultaneous use of the internet and the telephone line without interference, as it operates on different frequencies.

The deployment of ADSL technology typically involves a DSL modem at the user's premises and a DSLAM (Digital Subscriber Line Access Multiplexer) at the telephone company's central office. The distance from the central office plays a crucial role in ADSL performance; the further the user is from the DSLAM, the slower the connection speeds will be. ADSL has been a popular choice for home and small business internet access for many years, offering a significant upgrade from dial-up connections. While newer technologies like fiber optics offer higher speeds, ADSL remains a viable option in areas where fiber infrastructure is not yet available.
