A321

The Airbus A321 is the largest member of the Airbus A320 family, a line of single-aisle, narrow-body airliners. It features a longer fuselage than the A320, enabling higher passenger capacity while using common cockpit, flight systems, and operational procedures with other A320 family aircraft. It is designed for a range of short- to mid-range routes with improved economics on high-demand paths.

The A321 is produced in two main engine-option families: the A321ceo (current engine option) and the A321neo (new engine option). The A321neo can be equipped with CFM International LEAP-1A or Pratt & Whitney PW1100G-JM engines. Aerodynamic improvements, including updated wings and weight reductions, contribute to lower fuel burn and emissions relative to the original ceo variant.

Long-range derivatives include the A321LR (Long Range), which provides roughly 4,000 to 4,500 nautical miles of range for extended routes with a single-aisle configuration. The A321XLR (Extra Long Range) expands this capability further, delivering up to about 4,700 nautical miles and enabling more transatlantic and other long-haul operations without resorting to twin-aisle aircraft.

Capacity and operations: Typical seating for the A321 ranges from about 185 to 236 passengers, depending on layout and variant. It is deployed by numerous airlines worldwide for dense domestic services and certain long-range missions that benefit from single-aisle efficiency and commonality with the A320 family.

Production and use: The A321 is manufactured by Airbus at its European final-assembly lines in Toulouse, France, and Hamburg, Germany. It remains a core component of the A320 family lineup and is operated globally across commercial fleets.
