8isoprostaglandin
8-isoprostaglandin, also known as 8-isoPGF2α, is a specific isomer of prostaglandin F2α. Prostaglandins are a group of lipid compounds that exhibit hormone-like effects in animals. They are derived enzymatically from fatty acids, primarily arachidonic acid, and act in the immediate vicinity of where they are produced. 8-isoprostaglandin is formed through a non-enzymatic process involving the oxidation of arachidonic acid, a free radical-mediated pathway. This distinguishes it from many other prostaglandins which are synthesized by cyclooxygenase enzymes.
The formation of 8-isoprostaglandin is considered a reliable biomarker of oxidative stress in biological systems. Elevated
