8011 is an aluminum alloy in the 8000-series of aluminum alloys. It is a non-heat-treatable alloy, strengthened primarily by cold working, and is widely used in foil form. The alloy is commonly produced as thin foil for packaging and as a component in laminated films used for food, pharmaceutical, and consumer packaging.

Key properties include good formability and ductility, adequate strength for foil use, high resistance to corrosion, and excellent barrier performance against moisture and many gases. It is also suitable for food-contact applications because it is non-toxic and is subject to regulatory standards for packaging materials.

Typical applications are household aluminum foil, commercial food packaging foils, cap liners, and laminated packaging materials that combine aluminum with plastics or paper. It is usually supplied in annealed (O) temper for maximum pliability; in some cases it can be produced with partial cold work to increase strength.

Manufacturing involves continuous rolling of ingots into thin foil, followed by annealing. The alloy is produced by the aluminum industry under standards set by the Aluminum Association and other regional bodies; variations exist in exact composition for different product grades.

8011 foil is widely recyclable and is commonly accepted in municipal recycling streams along with other aluminum scrap. It is used globally and is a standard option for many food-contact packaging needs.
