It was first observed on 11 January 2000 by the Lincoln Near‑Earth Asteroid Research (LINEAR) survey at the Lincoln Laboratory Experimental Test Site in Socorro, New Mexico. The provisional designation of the asteroid was 2000 AE, and following its orbit determination, it received its permanent number 78395 by the Minor Planet Center in 2002.
