The asteroid is classified as a member of the Themis family, a large group of asteroids in the outer part of the main asteroid belt. Its orbital period around the Sun is approximately 5.3 years, and it has an average distance from the Sun (semi-major axis) of about 3.2 astronomical units. With an estimated diameter of several kilometers, 52199 is a typical, non-interactive member of the main asteroid belt, with no known close approaches to Earth or other planets.
