3SGTE

The 3SGTE is a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine produced by Toyota. It is most famously known for its use in the second and third generation Toyota MR2 models (SW20 and ZZW30 respectively), as well as various Celica GT-Four variants. The engine is part of Toyota's larger S engine family, but it is distinguished by its twin-entry (or sequential) turbocharger system, which provides a broader powerband compared to single turbo setups.

The 3SGTE is a DOHC (Double Overhead Camshaft) engine with 16 valves. Early versions featured a smaller turbocharger for quick spool-up and a larger one that engaged at higher RPMs. Later iterations evolved the turbocharging system. The engine is known for its robust construction and potential for significant power upgrades. It uses an intercooler to cool the intake air, which improves volumetric efficiency and power output.

Over its production life, several variations of the 3SGTE existed, denoted by different engine codes (e.g., ST185, ST205).
