1830-luvulla, or the 1830s, refers to the decade spanning 1830 to 1839, a period of rapid political, social, and technological change in many parts of the world. It was characterized by revolutionary movements, reforms, and the accelerating impact of industrialization, alongside expanding global trade and colonial networks.

In Europe, the decade saw significant political upheaval and realignment. The July Revolution of 1830 in France led to the overthrow of the Bourbon monarchy and the establishment of a constitutional monarchy under Louis-Philippe. Belgium declared independence from the Netherlands in 1830, with independence largely secured by the 1839 Treaty of London. The Polish uprising of 1830–1831 and continued conflict in related regions shaped the era’s geopolitics, while Britain’s Reform Act of 1832 broadened the franchise and reformed parliamentary representation. Queen Victoria began her reign in 1837, marking a new chapter in British domestic and imperial history. The Opium War would soon begin in East Asia, reflecting widening global tensions over trade and sovereignty.

In the Americas, the United States pursued territorial expansion and reform, with actions such as the Indian Removal Act of 1830 and the Texas independence movement (1835–1836) influencing policy and conflict. The decade also saw economic cycles such as the Panic of 1837, which affected financial markets in North America and beyond. Railway expansion and telegraph development began to transform communication and transportation, signaling the deeper industrial changes that defined the era.

Advances in science and culture accompanied these shifts. The first long-distance electric telegraph experiments appeared in the 1830s, Daguerre’s photography emerged in 1839, and the Beagle voyage (1831–1836) contributed to later scientific work.
