The discovery was carried out by the Pan‑STARRS 1 survey at Haleakala Observatory, using a 1.8‑meter Schmidt camera and a 1.4‑giga‑pixel CCD camera array. Subsequent follow‑up observations from the Lowell Observatory and the European Space Agency’s Gaia mission confirmed the preliminary orbital elements, leading to the assignment of the permanent designation.

The light‑curve analysis indicates a rotation period of 7.4 hours with a brightness amplitude of 0.18 magnitudes, implying a fairly spherical shape.
