Öljypatterit, also known as oil-filled radiators or oil heaters, are a type of electric space heater. They consist of a metal casing filled with a special heat-conducting oil. An electric heating element, submerged in the oil, heats the oil when the appliance is switched on. The heated oil then circulates within the casing through convection.

The outer surfaces of the oil-filled radiator become warm, radiating heat into the surrounding room. This process is relatively slow compared to other electric heaters, but it provides a gentle and sustained heat. The oil acts as a thermal reservoir, allowing the heater to continue emitting heat for a period even after it has been switched off. This makes them an efficient choice for maintaining a consistent temperature in a room.

Öljypatterit are typically portable and come with a thermostat to control the temperature. They are often chosen for their quiet operation, as they do not have fans that can create noise. They are also considered safer than some other heating methods because their surfaces do not get as hot as exposed heating elements, reducing the risk of burns. However, their slower heating speed means they may not be ideal for quickly warming up a cold room. Their energy consumption is comparable to other electric resistance heaters.
