Ásványképződés is the Hungarian term for mineral formation. It refers to the natural processes by which solid mineral substances form. These processes can occur under a wide range of geological conditions, including changes in temperature, pressure, and the chemical composition of the surrounding environment.

There are several primary mechanisms of mineral formation. Crystallization from a melt, such as magma or lava, is common. As molten rock cools, atoms arrange themselves into ordered crystalline structures, forming minerals like feldspar and quartz. Precipitation from aqueous solutions is another significant pathway. When dissolved minerals in water become supersaturated, they can deposit out of the solution to form new minerals. This is how many evaporite minerals, like halite (rock salt), and hydrothermal minerals form.

Metamorphism also plays a crucial role. Existing rocks, subjected to high temperatures and pressures deep within the Earth, can undergo chemical and structural changes. The atoms rearrange to form new, stable minerals under these altered conditions. Examples include the formation of garnet and kyanite. Sublimation, where a substance changes directly from a solid to a gas, and then back to a solid without passing through the liquid phase, can also lead to mineral formation, often in volcanic environments. Understanding these processes is fundamental to mineralogy and geology, explaining the diversity and distribution of minerals found on Earth.
