Ühisettevõtte, often translated as joint venture, is a business arrangement where two or more parties agree to pool their resources for the purpose of accomplishing a specific task. This task can be a new project or any other business activity. In a joint venture, each participant is responsible for profits, losses, and costs associated with it. However, the venture is its own entity, separate from the participants' other business interests.

The formation of a joint venture typically occurs when a business entity wants to expand into a new market or develop a new product but lacks the necessary resources or expertise. By partnering with another company, they can share the risks and rewards of the venture. Governing documents, such as a joint venture agreement, outline the terms, responsibilities, profit and loss sharing, and exit strategies for the partners. This form of business collaboration allows companies to leverage each other's strengths and achieve objectives that might be difficult or impossible to attain alone.
