Ångbildningens, often translated as "vaporization" or "boiling point" in English, refers to the physical process where a substance transitions from a liquid state to a gaseous state. This transformation occurs when the substance absorbs enough thermal energy to overcome the intermolecular forces holding its molecules together in the liquid phase. The temperature at which this transition happens under a given pressure is known as the boiling point.

For pure substances at standard atmospheric pressure, the boiling point is a characteristic physical property. For example, water boils at 100 degrees Celsius (212 degrees Fahrenheit) at sea level. However, the boiling point is not fixed and can vary significantly with changes in external pressure. At higher pressures, more energy is required to overcome the external forces, thus increasing the boiling point. Conversely, at lower pressures, the boiling point decreases. This principle is utilized in various applications, such as pressure cookers which increase the boiling point of water to cook food faster, and in high-altitude cooking where lower atmospheric pressure results in lower boiling points.

The process of ångbildningens involves not just reaching a specific temperature but also the absorption of a significant amount of energy known as the latent heat of vaporization. This energy is used to break the bonds between liquid molecules without increasing their kinetic energy, hence the temperature remains constant during boiling. Once in the gaseous state, the molecules are much further apart and move randomly with high kinetic energy.
