Üldvolitus

Üldvolitus, a term originating from Estonian law, refers to a general power of attorney. It is a legal document that grants one person, the agent (volinik), broad authority to act on behalf of another person, the principal (volitaja), in a wide range of matters. This type of authorization is typically used when the principal is unable to manage their affairs due to illness, absence, or other incapacitating circumstances.

The scope of an üldvolitus can vary significantly depending on the specific wording of the document. Generally, it empowers the agent to handle financial transactions, manage property, enter into contracts, and represent the principal in legal proceedings. However, it is crucial that an üldvolitus is drafted with clarity to avoid ambiguity regarding the extent of the agent's powers. Estonian law often requires such documents to be notarized to ensure their validity and to protect the interests of the principal.
