Írásvédelmi is a Hungarian term that translates to "write protection" in English. It refers to a mechanism that prevents data from being modified or deleted on a storage medium. This protection can be implemented in various ways depending on the type of storage device.

For physical media like floppy disks, write protection was often achieved through a physical switch or tab. Sliding this switch into the "locked" position would prevent writing to the disk. Similarly, some CDs and DVDs had write-protected versions, meaning data could only be written to them once.

In the context of digital storage, write protection is usually a software-based setting. This can be applied to individual files or folders, preventing accidental or malicious changes. Operating systems often provide options to set files as read-only, which is a form of write protection.
