Årstidsväxlingarna, or the changing of the seasons, refers to the regular and predictable shift in weather patterns and daylight hours that occur throughout the year. This phenomenon is primarily caused by the Earth's axial tilt of approximately 23.5 degrees relative to its orbital plane around the Sun. As the Earth orbits the Sun, different hemispheres are tilted towards or away from the Sun at various times.

When a hemisphere is tilted towards the Sun, it receives more direct sunlight, resulting in longer days and warmer temperatures, characteristic of summer. Conversely, when a hemisphere is tilted away from the Sun, it receives less direct sunlight, leading to shorter days and cooler temperatures, marking winter. Spring and autumn are transitional periods where the tilt is neither strongly towards nor away from the Sun, resulting in more moderate temperatures and progressively changing daylight hours.

These cyclical changes significantly influence ecosystems, affecting plant growth, animal behavior, and migration patterns. In many cultures, the changing seasons are marked by distinct traditions, festivals, and agricultural practices.
