Ávöxtunin

Ávöxtunin refers to the process of fruit development in plants. It begins after successful pollination and fertilization of a flower's ovules. The ovary, which contains the ovules, swells and matures into the fruit. The ovules themselves develop into seeds. This transformation involves significant physiological changes within the plant's reproductive structures.

During fruit development, the ovary wall differentiates into distinct layers that form the pericarp. The pericarp typically consists of an outer exocarp, a middle mesocarp, and an inner endocarp, although the structure and thickness of these layers vary greatly among different fruit types. For example, fleshy fruits like peaches have a fleshy mesocarp, while dry fruits like nuts have a hard endocarp.

The primary function of a fruit is seed dispersal, ensuring the propagation of the plant species. Fruits can attract animals through their color, scent, and taste, leading to them consuming the fruit and spreading the seeds. In other cases, fruits are adapted for dispersal by wind, water, or mechanical means. The growth and maturation of the fruit are often influenced by hormones produced by the developing seeds.
