Ásványgyapot

Ásványgyapot is the Hungarian term for mineral wool, a fibrous insulating material produced from molten minerals. It is broadly categorized into two main types: rock wool and glass wool, distinguished by their raw materials. Rock wool is typically made from basalt or other volcanic rocks, while glass wool is manufactured from recycled glass and sand.

The manufacturing process involves melting these raw materials at high temperatures, then spinning or blowing the molten substance into fine fibers. These fibers are then processed with a binder and compressed into various forms, such as batts, rolls, or loose-fill insulation. The trapped air pockets within the fibrous structure give mineral wool its excellent thermal and acoustic insulation properties.

Ásványgyapot is widely used in the construction industry for thermal insulation in buildings, reducing energy consumption for heating and cooling. It also serves as effective soundproofing material. Beyond construction, it finds applications in industrial insulation, fire protection, and in horticulture as a growing medium. Its non-combustible nature makes it a valuable component for fire safety in structures. The material is generally considered safe to handle, though proper protective gear is recommended during installation to avoid skin or respiratory irritation from the fibers.
