Árváltozása
Árváltozása is a Hungarian term that translates to "change of river" or "river transformation." It refers to the natural process where a river alters its course over time. This can happen due to various geological and hydrological factors, including erosion, sedimentation, and tectonic activity. Rivers naturally meander, and over long periods, the erosive power of the water can cut through the narrow necks of these meanders, creating a straighter channel and abandoning the old, curved section. This abandoned channel may then become an oxbow lake or a marshy area. Sediment deposition can also build up in certain areas, forcing the river to seek a new path. Tectonic shifts, though less frequent on a human timescale, can also cause significant changes in river systems. Understanding árváltozása is important in hydrology, geography, and environmental management, especially when considering historical landscapes or planning for future land use. It highlights the dynamic nature of river systems and their continuous evolution.
