Within these categories, further distinctions can be made, such as statics, which examines fluids at rest, and kinematics, which focuses on the motion of fluids without considering the forces involved. Dynamics, the most comprehensive aspect, analyzes the motion of fluids under the influence of forces.

Key concepts in áramlástani include viscosity, which measures a fluid's resistance to flow, and pressure, the force exerted per unit area. Bernoulli's principle, a fundamental equation, relates a fluid's speed, pressure, and elevation. The Navier-Stokes equations are a set of partial differential equations that describe the motion of viscous fluid substances. These principles and equations allow engineers and scientists to design aircraft, predict weather, develop pipelines, and optimize many other systems involving fluid flow.
