zajistný

Zajistný is a Czech adjective used mainly in legal and financial contexts to describe something that provides security for an obligation. It denotes collateral, security interests or other means by which a debtor’s performance is guaranteed to creditors.

The term is derived from the verb zajistit (to secure or guarantee) and is contrasted with nezajištěný (unsecured). In contract law and banking, zajistný elements appear when a debtor’s obligation is backed by assets or guarantees that can satisfy the obligation if the debtor defaults.

In practice, zajistný arrangements include collateral such as zástava (pledge) or mortgage, guarantees (ručení) and other security rights. A zajistný závazek is a secured obligation, often with priority over unsecured claims, and a zajistný úvěr refers to a loan that is secured by collateral.

Zajištění is the broader concept of security arrangements; zajistný is the adjectival form applied to specific instruments or obligations. The term is used more in formal regulatory language and technical contexts.
