ylioppi

Ylioppi is a Finnish term that translates to "graduate" or "alumnus" of a Finnish matriculation examination. This examination, known as the ylioppilastutkinto, is a standardized national test taken at the end of upper secondary education, typically around the age of 18 or 19. Successfully passing the ylioppilastutkinto is a prerequisite for applying to higher education institutions in Finland, such as universities and universities of applied sciences.

The ylioppilastutkinto consists of several compulsory subjects and at least one optional subject. The compulsory subjects usually include Finnish (or Swedish for Finnish-Swedish speaking students), Swedish, and mathematics. Students can choose from a range of optional subjects, such as English, foreign languages, natural sciences, social sciences, and arts. The examination is graded on a scale, and a certain number of passed subjects with a satisfactory grade are required to achieve the status of ylioppi.
