yhteisjakso

Yhteisjakso is a Finnish term used in broadcasting and media studies to describe an episode that is produced and released jointly by two or more broadcasters, platforms, or production companies. The term combines yhteis- (shared, joint) with jakso (episode).

In practice, yhteisjakso can take several forms: a cross-over episode spanning two series; a single episode released simultaneously on multiple channels or platforms (simulcast); or a co-produced episode funded by several partners. Such arrangements are used to expand audience reach, share production costs, or align programming for events or festivals.

Production considerations include joint licensing and rights, editorial control, and ensuring continuity with storylines. Logistical challenges include coordinating schedules, standards, and credits, while revenue sharing and attribution must be agreed in advance.

Although most commonly encountered in the Finnish public-broadcasting ecosystem, yhteisjakso also appears in streaming contexts and in academic discussions of cross-media storytelling. It is related to, but not identical with, terms such as crossover episode and simulcast.
