Wegense is a fictional language created for a contemporary worldbuilding project set in a coastal archipelago. It is depicted as the historic and ceremonial tongue of the Wegari people who inhabit the islands.

Linguistic overview: Wegense is primarily an SVO language with analytic syntax and agglutinative verb morphology. It uses nouns with case markings for nominative, accusative, and dative, and marks number (singular and plural). Verbs encode tense, aspect, mood, voice, and evidentiality through affixes and clitics. Nouns do not inflect for gender.

Phonology and orthography: Wegense features a vowel inventory similar to many European languages, with a set of consonants that supports both simple and complex syllables. Stress is typically on the root syllable. The language uses a Latin-based alphabet with diacritics to indicate vowel length and phonemic distinctions; the orthography is largely phonemic and relatively regular.

Usage and culture: Within the fiction, Wegense is used in liturgy, genealogy, and education. It coexists with a vernacular Wegan language for daily conversation.
