Wetlands in Sweden may be managed or unmanaged. Managed wetlands may be used for agriculture, such as raising crops like hay or sugar beets. Unmanaged wetlands may contain areas of dense vegetation and smaller amounts of smaller pools. Both types of wetlands support plant and animal life.

Human activities can impact the functioning of wetlands in negative ways, such as pollution and habitat destruction. As a result, conservation efforts may be necessary to protect these ecosystems.
