AC generators convert mechanical energy into electrical energy in the form of alternating current. They typically consist of a stator and a rotor. The stator is the stationary part, while the rotor is the rotating part. In most AC generators, the magnetic field is produced by the rotor, and the armature winding, where the current is induced, is located on the stator. AC motors, conversely, convert electrical energy into mechanical energy. They also have a stator and a rotor. The stator typically contains windings that are supplied with AC power, creating a rotating magnetic field. This rotating field then interacts with the rotor, causing it to rotate. The most common types of AC motors are induction motors and synchronous motors. Induction motors are robust and widely used due to their simple construction and cost-effectiveness, while synchronous motors maintain a constant speed synchronized with the supply frequency.
