Värmeeffekter, also known as thermal effects, refer to the changes and phenomena that occur in a system due to the addition or removal of heat. These effects are fundamental to thermodynamics and are observed across various physical and chemical processes.

One of the most common värmeeffekter is thermal expansion. When most substances are heated, their particles gain kinetic energy and move more vigorously, causing them to spread apart. This leads to an increase in the volume of the substance, a phenomenon known as expansion. Conversely, cooling a substance causes its particles to slow down and come closer together, resulting in contraction. This effect is significant in engineering applications, such as in the design of bridges and railway tracks, where expansion joints are incorporated to accommodate temperature-induced changes in length.

Further heating of the liquid can cause it to boil and turn into a gas.
