Välyksen is a term used in mechanical engineering to describe the clearance or gap between two mating parts, such as a shaft and a bore. It represents the space that allows movement, lubrication, and accommodation of dimensional variations due to manufacturing tolerances, assembly, and thermal effects. Välyksen can be described in static terms (the initial clearance present when parts are assembled) and dynamic terms (the clearance that exists during operation under load and temperature changes). It can be radial (across the diameter) or axial (along the axis).
